Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia has asserted that Ghanaians will soon use the Ghana card to purchase cars on credit and pay in instalments.
He said this while addressing the 57th Congregation of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) on November 24, 2023.
According to him, the initiative was part of the ongoing digitalization efforts within the economy and there are ongoing discussions with local automobile companies, including Solar Taxi, to facilitate this program.
“The Ghana Card will serve as the cornerstone for a credit system in Ghana, with plans for selected car manufacturers, particularly Solar Taxi, to offer cars on credit to individuals,” Bibianinews.com quotes Bawumia as saying.
He emphasized that the Ghana Card would be the sole requirement for these transactions, allowing people to acquire cars and make payments over time.
Additionally, the vice president revealed intentions to introduce a credit scoring system for individuals in 2024. This system aims to establish a reliable credit history for individuals, bolster the financial sector, address trust concerns, reduce business costs, and promote financial discipline.
“Ghana will be implementing a credit scoring system for individuals next year. Every individual will be assigned a credit score.
Mohammed Apam Issaka, Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Constituency communication team member of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) sharing his opinion with Bibianinews.com said “Whoever will openly say he or she doesn’t support this policy for is a witch, I mean a witch with no class,” but Ghanaians must not laud the Akufo-Addo and Bawumia’s government’s flagship program again.
He said President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and Bawumia’s key campaign message during the 2012 and 2016 election period was to introduce free Senior High School for Ghanaians–the policy is projected to cost 3.6 billion Ghana cedis each year but what have we experience now, many Ghanain are calling for a review of the policy.
According to him, “This policy is similar to the NDC’s progressively free education policy.”
“We the NDC will put in place measures to make the policy “a long lasting” one that will be of benefit for all,” when we come to power inshallah he added.
He recounted some of Bawumia’s filed promises, he said Bawumia promised that Ghanain won’t borrow to construct roads, now road constructors are not being paid, ensuring that Ghana will not go to the IMF to borrow again because the money is here, did we go to IMF or not he asked? Stabilizing the economy of the country, what are we experiencing now?
He said Vice President Bawumia has lost faith in the people since he has failed us with no message.
The Ghana Card To Buy Car On Credit Policy is a good initiative but this NPP government can’t fulfill their promise. we the NDC, are calling on Ghanain to vote massively for former President John Dramani Mahama come 2024 general elections to revamp our economy.
