Students at the Bibiani Senior High Technical Senior in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region will no longer need to travel long distances to collect water because of the inconsistent water supply on campus.
The students can now experience a sigh of relief after the PW Mining Limited employees commissioned and handed over a mechanized borehole for the school.
According to the mining production manager Mr. Eric Okwan, students of the school often utilize the main Bibiani to Kumasi Highways road in front of the school to gain access to water due to the school’s unreliable water supply.
He said, “We, the employees of the company, decided to contribute money and construct a project for the school in order to alleviate the challenges of students gaining access to potable water.”
On his part, the General Manager of the mining film Mr Paul Convery emphasised the importance of education in creating a future for these young learners.
He admonished the school authorities to maintain the borehole and ensure a constant supply of water to the school.
The head master of the school, Mr George Baidooh, informed guests of the various challenges facing the school and commended the PW mining employees for the intervention, which he stressed will further boost teaching and learning in the school.
“What we are witnessing today is very commendable and noble of Bibiani PW Mining employees. Obtaining this borehole could not have arrived at a more advantageous moment. This will help students save a lot of time to concentrate on their studies instead of spending hours of their precious time to obtain water,” he added.
Mr Aaidooh further emphasized that, despite the challenges facing the school, it has excelled academically. “As you may be aware, we always make it a point to surmount our challenges by focusing on academic excellence. We don’t let our challenges get the better part of us.”
Some students of the school, unable to conceal their happiness, expressed that their prayers had been fulfilled after dealing with an unreliable water supply. They also expressed gratitude towards the mining company's employees for their spirit of volunteerism and pledged to take responsible care of it.
