This Girl Can Foundation Founder Warns Against Self-Medication, Urges Timely Hospital Visits
The Founder of the This Girl Can Foundation, Abigail Ato Aggrey, has urged Ghanaians to desist from self-medication and seek professional medical attention at the nearest health facility whenever they fall sick.
She made the call in an interview with Hamza Mohammed during a free health screening exercise organised in Bibiani by MEDROAM AFRICA and the This Girl Can Foundation, in collaboration with the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Health Directorate.
According to Abigail Ato Aggrey, relying on self-medication instead of seeking professional healthcare can expose individuals to health risks, particularly when the underlying cause of an illness has not been properly diagnosed.
She encouraged the public to make regular visits to health facilities a priority and consult qualified health professionals before taking medication.
She further stressed the importance of health education and preventive healthcare, urging individuals to take their health seriously rather than wait until their conditions become severe before seeking medical attention.
The Foundation's founder also called for increased public awareness of the dangers associated with inappropriate medication use, noting that early medical consultation can help people receive the appropriate diagnosis and treatment.
The free screening exercise in Bibiani covered breast cancer, cervical cancer, hepatitis, malaria and blood pressure checks, alongside human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination.
The initiative formed part of efforts to promote early detection of diseases and encourage residents of Bibiani and its surrounding communities to take greater responsibility for their health.
Abigail Ato Aggrey's message serves as a reminder to the public that self-medication should not replace professional medical assessment and that seeking timely healthcare is essential to protecting lives and improving health outcomes.
