Thieves Ransack NCCE Office in Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality
The Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Office of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) in the Western North Region has been attacked by unidentified thieves, resulting in the theft of several valuable items.
According to information gathered, the criminals made away with desktop computers and accessories, a public address (PA) system, spare tyres, pull-up banners, and a storage box.
The Municipal Director of the NCCE, Madam Martha Nneka Opara, confirmed the incident in an interview with Awuku Addo, during his visit to the office to verify the report. She disclosed that the thieves also broke into other government institutions within the same premises, including the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ), the Audit Department, and the Electoral Commission’s store, where they stole a main switch, electrical wires, service lines, and air conditioners.
Madam Opara stated that the incident has been reported to the police for investigation. She lamented that the NCCE and CHRAJ offices have been neglected by the Municipal Assembly over the years, with little attention given to renovation or maintenance.
She further bemoaned the absence of security personnel and labourers to protect and maintain the offices, especially during the rainy season, describing the situation as a serious challenge that exposes government property to constant risk.
Madam Opara indicated that the office will formally notify the newly appointed Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for immediate intervention to enhance security and safeguard the facility.
