Fire Destroys Over Six Shops at Bibiani Newtown
Traders at Bibiani Newtown in the Western North Region are counting their losses after a devastating fire ravaged more than six shops late Wednesday afternoon.
According to eyewitnesses, the inferno began around 4:05 p.m. near the Bibiani Circuit Court, destroying properties and goods worth thousands of Ghana cedis. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be determined.
Shop owners watched helplessly as their investments went up in flames. Some residents nearby rushed to the scene and managed to force open a few shops in an attempt to salvage items before the blaze spread further.
Others alleged that although firefighters arrived at the scene promptly, much of the damage had already been done before their intervention.
No casualties have been reported so far, and the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS) has launched preliminary investigations into the cause of the fire.
