Teacher Tanko Marks Golden Jubilee with Exercise Book Donation to Alma Mater
Sefwi Bekwai, Western North Region – A professional teacher, Mr. Bismarck Opoku Manu, popularly known as Teacher Tanko, has celebrated his 50th birthday in a unique and inspiring way by donating exercise books to pupils of Sefwi Bekwai Baakokrom M/A Basic School, his alma mater.
Rather than spending money on lavish birthday celebrations, drinks, and entertainment, Teacher Tanko chose to invest in the education of young learners by printing and distributing exercise books to support their academic activities.
Speaking during the presentation, Teacher Tanko explained that he was once a pupil of Sefwi Bekwai Baakokrom M/A Basic School and now serves as a professional teacher at the same institution. He described the gesture as his way of giving back to the school that laid the foundation for his educational journey.
According to him, reaching his golden jubilee was a moment of reflection and gratitude, prompting him to celebrate in a way that would positively impact the lives of others.
"Many people spend huge sums of money on drinks and parties during their birthdays. I decided to use that money to print exercise books for these pupils because education transformed my life and made me the teacher I am today," he said.
Teacher Tanko also used the occasion to encourage parents and guardians to prioritize the education of their children, stressing that investing in education is one of the greatest gifts they can give to the next generation.
He urged the pupils to take their studies seriously, remain disciplined, and work hard toward achieving their dreams.
The donation was received with excitement and appreciation by both staff and pupils of the school. Some of the beneficiaries expressed their heartfelt gratitude to Teacher Tanko for remembering his former school and supporting their education.
The pupils also offered prayers for him, asking God to bless him with good health, long life, and continued success for his generosity and commitment to the development of education in the community.
The thoughtful gesture has been widely praised by members of the community, who described it as an exemplary act of selflessness and a reminder that birthdays can also be celebrated through meaningful acts of kindness that leave a lasting impact on society.
