"Prayer Without Moral Change Is Meaningless" – Sefwi Traditional Leaders, Regional Minister Call for Responsible Citizenship
Sefwi Dwinase, Western North Region – Traditional leaders and government officials have urged Ghanaians to complement their prayers with good character, integrity, and responsible citizenship during this year's National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving held at Glistens Park in Sefwi Dwinase.
Delivering a message on behalf of Nana Ofori Ahenkan II, Chief of Sefwi Bonzain and Acting President of the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council, Nana Kwasi Gyabeng II, Chief of Sefwi Dechiamuasuo and Abesimhene of the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council, stressed that praising and thanking God without abandoning immoral behaviour is meaningless.
According to the message, worship without moral transformation has little value before God. Nana Ofori Ahenkan II noted that offering prayers and songs of thanksgiving while continuing to engage in dishonesty, corruption, violence, abuse, and the neglect of family responsibilities amounts to empty religion.
He emphasized that genuine gratitude to God must be reflected in people's daily lives, urging Ghanaians to become better parents, responsible neighbours, honest leaders, and law-abiding citizens.
"Thanking God for life, good health, and the peace of our nation must inspire us to live upright lives. If our attitudes and morals do not change, then our praise and thanksgiving become meaningless," the message stated.
He further described the National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving as an opportunity for every Ghanaian to reflect not only on God's blessings but also on their individual responsibility to help build a peaceful, disciplined, and morally upright society.
Also addressing the gathering, the Western North Regional Minister, Hon. Wilbert Petty Brentum Fume, underscored the importance of collective responsibility in national development.
He stated that building the Ghana citizens desire cannot be left to the President or government alone, insisting that every Ghanaian has a role to play in resetting the nation's values and promoting development.
"It is not only the President who has to do everything. Every citizen has a responsibility to contribute positively to national development through honesty, hard work, discipline, and patriotism," he said.
Hon. Fume also cautioned against the culture of blame, stressing that Ghana's progress would not be achieved through finger-pointing but through personal commitment and accountability.
According to him, true national transformation begins when individuals take responsibility for their actions in their homes, workplaces, and communities.
He therefore urged Ghanaians to ensure that their prayers are matched with practical actions, integrity, and a genuine commitment to the country's progress.
The National Day of Prayer and Thanksgiving brought together traditional rulers, religious leaders, government officials, and residents of Sefwi Dwinase, who joined in prayers for peace, unity, and the continued development of Ghana.
