Parents and guardians have been encouraged to invest more in the education of their children, describing education as one of the greatest legacies they can leave behind.
The advice was given by philanthropist Isaac Anyimah, popularly known as Director, during the presentation of school uniforms to pupils of Sefwi Bekwai Baakokrom M/A Basic School in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region.
Speaking at the donation ceremony, Mr. Anyimah said while it is common for families to spend huge sums of money on funeral clothing and ceremonies, greater attention should be given to educating children, as education provides lifelong benefits and remains a lasting achievement even after parents have passed away.
"Buying funeral cloth is part of our tradition, but we should invest more in our children's education because it is the greatest achievement and legacy we can leave behind," he stated.
Mr. Anyimah disclosed that he has been undertaking the annual donation of school uniforms for the past ten years without receiving financial support from any individual or organisation.
According to him, the initiative was born out of his desire to reduce absenteeism among schoolchildren, especially those who are unable to attend school because their parents cannot afford school uniforms.
He appealed to the general public, corporate bodies, and benevolent individuals to support his initiative so that more needy children can benefit and remain in school.
"I have been doing this for ten years on my own. I am appealing to the public to come on board and support this initiative so we can reach more children and help reduce absenteeism caused by the lack of school uniforms," he added.
The Unit Committee Chairperson for the Sefwi Bekwai Post Office Square Electoral Area, Madam Mercy Annor, commended Mr. Anyimah for his generosity and dedication to improving education in the community.
She also appealed to parents whose children benefited from the donation to ensure they dress them neatly and encourage regular school attendance.
The Assistant Headmistress of Sefwi Bekwai Baakokrom M/A Basic School, Madam Eva Asantewa, expressed gratitude to the philanthropist for his continuous support over the years.
She called on natives of Baakokrom and other well-meaning individuals living in cities across Ghana and abroad to emulate Mr. Anyimah's example by contributing towards the development of education in their hometown.
Madam Asantewa further appealed to the government, non-governmental organisations, old students, and philanthropists to assist in renovating the school's deteriorating classroom block to provide a safe and conducive learning environment for both pupils and teachers.
The donation brought smiles to the faces of the beneficiaries and reaffirmed the importance of community support in improving access to quality education for children in rural communities.
