NDC Chairman Nana Yaw Barima Reflects on Political Struggles After Retaining Position

Bibiani, Western North Region — The Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Constituency Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Nana Yaw Barima, has expressed sadness over what he describes as neglect by the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Bright Asamoah Brefo, despite the efforts he and his executive made during the 2024 general elections.

Speaking to the media after retaining his position in the constituency's party elections, Nana Yaw Barima said he played a significant role in helping Hon. Bright Asamoah Brefo secure the parliamentary seat but was later disappointed by the treatment he and his executive received.

According to him, the NDC constituency leadership and its executives worked tirelessly during the 2024 general elections to secure victory for the party and its parliamentary candidate. However, he expressed disappointment that their efforts were not adequately recognised after the elections.

Nana Yaw Barima further observed that, for the past 20 years, no NDC constituency chairman in Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai had succeeded in helping the party win the parliamentary seat until the 2024 general elections.

He said the victory was the result of hard work, commitment and the collective efforts of himself, his executives and other party faithful who worked to secure the seat for the NDC.

Despite the challenges and disappointment he described, Nana Yaw Barima said he was encouraged by the decision of delegates to give him another opportunity to lead the constituency.

Reflecting on the situation, he offered a word of advice to political officeholders, stressing the importance of humility, respect and appreciation for those who contribute to their success.

"My brother, if you get a position, respect people and be humble," he advised.

His remarks serve as a reminder of the importance of unity, mutual respect and cooperation among party members, particularly after electoral victories, when maintaining strong relationships can be essential to sustaining political support.

Appreciation to Delegates and Party Leaders

Nana Yaw Barima expressed gratitude to Chairman Big Aidoo for his support, guidance and advice throughout his political journey.

He also thanked all NDC delegates in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Constituency for renewing their confidence in him and giving him a second opportunity to serve as constituency chairman.

He is expected to continue working with the constituency executives, grassroots supporters and other stakeholders to strengthen the party's structures and promote unity among members.

His re-election comes at a time when the party's leadership will be expected to consolidate its gains, address internal concerns and maintain the cooperation needed to sustain its political fortunes in the constituency.
