NADMO Urges Residents in Flood-Prone Areas to Relocate to Safer Grounds
The National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) is warning residents in flood-prone and waterlogged areas to immediately relocate to higher grounds due to the onset of heavy rains. The Ghana Meteorological Agency has issued alerts predicting possible flooding in various parts of the country.
Gabriel Nana Adu Bonsu, Regional NADMO Director for the Ahafo Region, emphasized the need for residents in high-risk zones to seek refuge in designated safe havens. He made this call after touring vulnerable communities in the region, highlighting the importance of prioritizing safety.
Bonsu also stressed the need for urgent collaboration between planning authorities and traditional leaders to stop the sale of lands in wetlands and Ramsar sites. This practice, he noted, poses a significant threat to lives and properties.
Residents are strongly advised to take these warnings seriously and act promptly to prevent loss of life and damage to properties.
In light of the potential flooding, residents are encouraged to prioritize their safety and take necessary precautions to mitigate the impact of the rains. By working together, we can reduce the risks associated with flooding and ensure a safer community for all.
