Government Urged to Extend Teaching and Learning Materials to Private Schools

The Chief Executive Officer of Joemars Educational Complex, Mr. Joseph Odoye Kofo, has appealed to the Government of Ghana to extend the distribution of teaching and learning materials to private schools, just as it has done for public schools across the country.

He made the appeal during the school's graduation ceremony held at Sefwi Adukrom in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region.

According to Mr. Kofo, private schools continue to play a significant role in complementing the government's efforts to provide quality education, and therefore deserve equal support to improve teaching and learning outcomes. He stressed that the provision of textbooks, furniture, and other educational materials to private schools would not only enhance academic performance but also ensure that every Ghanaian child, regardless of the type of school they attend, has access to quality education.

He further called on the government and other stakeholders in the education sector to recognize the invaluable contribution of private schools to national development and include them in educational support programmes.

Speaking at the same event, the Proprietor of Joemars Educational Complex, Mr. Isaac Ayim, urged parents to closely monitor their children's use of mobile phones. He expressed concern over the growing obsession among young people with social media platforms, particularly TikTok, which he said is negatively affecting their academic performance.

Mr. Ayim advised parents to encourage their children to use smartphones for educational purposes by accessing online learning materials, conducting research, and developing useful skills rather than spending excessive time on entertainment and social media.

He emphasized that technology should serve as a tool for learning and personal development instead of becoming a distraction that hinders academic success.

Also addressing the gathering, the PTA Chairman of Joemars Educational Complex, Mr. Isaac Kwadjo Kyeremateng, appealed to parents to prioritize investment in their children's education. He noted that education remains the greatest legacy parents can leave for their children and urged families to make every sacrifice necessary to support their wards throughout their academic journey.

Mr. Kyeremateng encouraged parents to maintain close collaboration with teachers and school authorities to ensure the holistic development of every child, adding that a strong partnership between the home and the school is essential for academic excellence and good moral upbringing.

The colourful graduation ceremony brought together parents, teachers, students, traditional leaders, and invited guests to celebrate the achievements of the graduating pupils. The event featured cultural performances, poetry recitals, choreography, awards presentations, and words of encouragement from school authorities, all aimed at inspiring the graduates to pursue excellence in the next stage of their educational journey.
