Government Urged abrogating New Taxes As People Are Not Happy With It
Professor Robert Aidoo, a former Presiding Member for Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Assembly, has urged the New Patriotic Party government, under the auspices of President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo, to abolish two new taxes: the 15% VAT on electricity and the emission tax.
According to him, reducing the rate of these taxes won’t be the best option, therefore scraping it in toto will be in the interest of the people (Ghanaians) especially Organised Labour.
In furtherance, he advised the government to end it to avert demonstrations which could make it (Govt) unpopular in this election year.
The Professor believes that when the country becomes strong, the unemployment rate decreases and entrepreneurs can expand their businesses, then the government can adjust (increase) income taxes and people will understand.
When they hold on to implementing these taxes, it will help their government during electioneering campaigns, he hinted.
