Bibiani Business Owners Lament Persistent Power Outages, Appeal to President Mahama for Immediate Intervention
Business owners in Bibiani, within the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region, have expressed deep frustration over the persistent and erratic power outages that have plagued the area in recent weeks.
According to the affected traders and entrepreneurs, the unstable electricity supply is taking a heavy toll on their operations, causing significant financial losses and disrupting their daily activities.
Several business operators, including tailors, barbers, cold store owners, and printing press operators, say the frequent blackouts have made it increasingly difficult to serve customers efficiently and maintain their businesses.
Speaking to the media, some of the affected business owners described the situation as unbearable, noting that the unpredictable power cuts have not only reduced their productivity but have also led to the damage of valuable equipment and appliances.
A local tailor explained that sewing machines often stop abruptly during work, delaying orders and disappointing customers. Barbers also lamented that they are unable to attend to clients whenever power goes off unexpectedly, leading to a decline in patronage.
Cold store operators, who rely heavily on constant electricity to preserve frozen products, revealed that the outages have resulted in spoilage of goods, causing substantial financial setbacks. Similarly, printing press operators indicated that the interruptions have delayed production schedules and affected service delivery.
The business community is therefore calling on President John Dramani Mahama and relevant authorities, particularly the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), to urgently address the situation before it further cripples economic activities in the municipality.
They stressed that stable electricity is essential for the survival and growth of businesses, especially small and medium-sized enterprises that form the backbone of the local economy.
"We are pleading with the President to come to our aid. The frequent power outages are destroying our businesses and making life very difficult for us. We need a lasting solution," one business owner appealed.
The traders warned that if the situation persists, many businesses may be forced to downsize or shut down entirely, which could lead to job losses and economic hardship in the municipality.
Residents and business owners alike are hopeful that swift action will be taken to restore a reliable power supply and safeguard livelihoods in Bibiani.
