EDUCATION : Riley-Opoku Anglican JHS Appeals for Urgent Construction of New School Building at Sefwi Anhwiaso
The Headteacher of Riley-Opoku Anglican Junior High School at Sefwi Anhwiaso in the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region, Mr. Richard Annor, has issued a heartfelt appeal to government authorities, educational stakeholders, and well-meaning individuals to urgently intervene in the plight of the school.
He revealed that despite the school’s outstanding academic performance and large student population, the current state of their building poses a serious threat to the safety of both students and staff.
According to Mr. Annor, Riley-Opoku Anglican JHS has consistently produced some of the best BECE results in the Anhwiaso area, earning recognition for academic excellence.
However, the dilapidated and structurally weak school building continues to undermine effective teaching and learning, making it difficult for teachers to deliver quality education in a safe and conducive environment.
Supporting this call, the Assembly Member for the Sefwi Anhwiaso Electoral Area, Mr. Sampson Gyapong, lamented that he has raised this issue multiple times during Assembly sittings, yet no meaningful action has been taken.
He emphasized that many prominent individuals from Sefwi Anhwiaso once attended this very school, urging them to remember their roots and contribute towards the construction of a new classroom block.
Mr. Gyapong further stressed the need for urgent intervention, noting that the state of the school building has long gone beyond minor renovations.
He appealed to NGOs, corporate bodies, and the Ministry of Education to treat the matter with the urgency it deserves.
Students of Riley-Opoku Anglican JHS also expressed their concerns, revealing that classes are often dismissed abruptly whenever there are signs of rainfall, as the weak structure cannot withstand strong winds or storms.
They pleaded for support, explaining that a safer and improved learning environment would enable them to focus on their studies and maintain the school’s record of academic excellence.
The school community is united in its plea, hopeful that their cry for help will reach the appropriate authorities and generous individuals who can bring about the change they desperately need.
