Confidence for the Future: Girls Encouraged to Embrace an “I Can Do It” Spirit

Sefwi Chirano, Ghana – The Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Officer of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), Martha Nnelka Oparah, has urged young women to cultivate confidence and self-belief, encouraging them to adopt an “I can do it” mindset in both their academic pursuits and personal lives.

She delivered this message during the celebration of International Women’s Day at Sefwi Chirano Community Day Senior High School. The event was organized by Fonda Impact Global under the theme “Confidence Cycle: Give, Gain and Grow.”

Addressing students and participants, Mrs. Oparah emphasized the importance of overcoming fear and self-doubt, particularly in academic fields often perceived as challenging. She observed that many girls shy away from subjects such as mathematics and engineering due to a lack of confidence.

“Too often, young ladies develop fear when it comes to subjects like mathematics and engineering,” she noted. “You must be bold enough to tell yourselves that you can excel in these areas just as much as your male counterparts.”

She stressed that intelligence and capability are not defined by gender, urging students to challenge stereotypes, push beyond their comfort zones, and embrace opportunities in science, technology, and other critical fields.

Encouraging Academic Commitment

Mrs. Oparah further advised students to take their education seriously, highlighting dedication and hard work as key ingredients for success. She encouraged them to remain focused, seek support when necessary, and maintain a positive attitude toward learning.

“Believe in your abilities and stay committed to your studies,” she added. “With determination and the right mindset, there is nothing you cannot achieve.”

Empowering Girls Through Confidence

The event formed part of ongoing efforts to inspire and empower young women to become confident, independent, and goal-oriented individuals. Through mentorship sessions, motivational talks, and interactive discussions, participants were equipped with the tools to build resilience and a strong sense of purpose.

The theme, “Confidence Cycle: Give, Gain and Grow,” underscored the importance of self-belief, continuous learning, and personal development in shaping the leaders of tomorrow.

A Lasting Impact

Participants expressed appreciation for the impactful message, noting that it challenged them to rethink their approach to difficult subjects and academic pursuits. Many pledged to overcome fear, build confidence, and strive for excellence in their studies.

The involvement of the National Commission for Civic Education also highlighted the critical role of civic education in promoting equality, empowerment, and national development.

As the program concluded, stakeholders reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the girl child and creating an enabling environment where young women can thrive academically and confidently pursue careers in all fields.
