DVLA Urges Tricycle Owners to Employ Certified Riders for Public Safety

The Driver and Vehicle Licensing Authority (DVLA) has urged tricycle owners across the country to ensure that only certified and licensed riders operate their vehicles.

Speaking in an interview, the Western North Regional Manager of the DVLA, Mr. Mawuli Dudi, emphasized that this directive is part of efforts to enhance road safety and reduce accidents involving tricycles, commonly known as “aboboyaa.”

Mr. Dudi cautioned that allowing unqualified or unauthorized individuals to operate tricycles poses a serious threat to public safety and constitutes a violation of Ghana’s road traffic regulations.

“It is an offense to see an unauthorized rider operating a vehicle on Ghana’s highways,” Mr. Mawuli Dudi, Western North Regional DVLA Manager

He explained that certified riders have undergone the necessary training and testing to ensure they possess the knowledge, discipline, and skills required to operate safely on public roads.

The DVLA’s call forms part of a broader national effort to promote responsible vehicle ownership and safeguard lives on the road. Mr. Dudi therefore appealed to all tricycle owners to verify the licenses of those they employ and prioritize the safety of passengers and other road users.

He added that the Authority remains committed to improving transportation safety standards through continuous education, enforcement, and collaboration with key stakeholders.
