Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai NADMO Coordinator Urges Schools to Embrace Tree Planting to Protect Infrastructure

The Municipal Coordinator of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) in Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai, Madam Abubakar Aminatu, has called on school authorities to cultivate the habit of tree planting as a proactive measure to protect school buildings from destruction caused by heavy winds.

Speaking during an outreach and tree-planting exercise at Sefwi Anhwiaso M/A Basic school,  Madam Aminatu emphasized that environmental neglect has contributed to the increasing damage to school infrastructure, especially during stormy weather. She noted that planting and nurturing trees around school compounds can serve as natural windbreaks, reducing the impact of strong winds that often rip off roofs and weaken structures.

She warned that many schools in the municipality continue to suffer from avoidable damage due to the absence of protective vegetation. “We must not wait for disaster to strike before taking action. Trees are one of the simplest yet most effective shields against heavy winds. Let us plant them, care for them, and protect our schools and future generations,” she advised.

Madam Aminatu further encouraged teachers and students to take ownership of environmental conservation, stressing that disaster prevention begins with responsible practices such as planting trees, maintaining clean surroundings, and avoiding bush burning.

Accompanying NADMO officials also educated students on the importance of disaster preparedness and urged them to become ambassadors of environmental stewardship in their communities.

The visit ended with the planting of several trees within the school compound, symbolizing NADMO’s commitment to building resilience and promoting a culture of safety across educational institutions.
