Western North: Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Parliamentary Loss Not Caused by Me – Hon. Kwame Asamoah

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Chairman for the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Constituency in the Western North Region, Hon. Kwame Asamoah, popularly known as Kwame Agege, has strongly refuted assertions that the party’s defeat in the constituency during the 2024 general elections was a result of his leadership as constituency chairman.

Speaking on the issue, Hon. Asamoah stated that the loss of the parliamentary seat to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) should not be attributed to his tenure, but rather to the conscious decision of the constituents to alter their voting pattern.

According to him, voters in Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai made a deliberate choice in the 2024 parliamentary elections to try a different candidate, with the hope of assessing whether a new representative could equally deliver development and effective representation to the constituency.

He explained that electoral outcomes are often influenced by several factors, including voter expectations, changing political dynamics, and the desire for alternative leadership, stressing that these factors go beyond the control of constituency executives.

Hon. Asamoah further questioned the narrative of blaming party executives for electoral defeats, drawing attention to historical trends within the party. He asked whether it would be fair to blame the national executives during periods when the NPP lost between 80 and 90 parliamentary seats nationwide.

According to him, such losses clearly demonstrate that election results are primarily determined by the choices of the electorate rather than the actions or inactions of party leadership at the constituency or national level.

He emphasized that democracy thrives on the freedom of voters to make independent decisions, noting that party executives can only mobilize, educate, and campaign, but cannot dictate how constituents vote.

Hon. Asamoah therefore called on party supporters to remain calm, united, and focused on rebuilding the party’s grassroots structures in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Constituency ahead of future elections.

He concluded by urging party members to avoid internal blame-sharing and instead reflect collectively on lessons from the 2024 general elections, with the aim of strengthening the NPP’s presence and electoral fortunes in the Western North Region.
