BIBIANI : 3 Armed Robbers Sentenced To 36 Years Imprisonment With Hard Labour

The Bibiani Circuit Court has sentenced 3 Small Scale Miners 36 years imprisonment with hard labour for robbery.

Each of the three robbers was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment on each count, and they will run concurrently.

The accused persons were : Fredrick Aboagye, 23 year, Patrick Acheampong 30 years, Afriyie Augustine 25 years.

Yaw Boakye, Amey and  Kwame Alarming are at large.

The convicts pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit crime and robbery.

The Prosecutor, Detective Chief Inspector Benjamin Owusu Agyeman, told the court, that the complainants and the convicts together with his accomplices, who are currently on the run, reside in the same area at Wassa Ankwawso.

Inspector Agyeman explained that about three months ago the complainant started a small scale mining at Wassa Ankwawso bush and employed Fredrick Aboagye and Kwame Alarming to assist in washing the gold concentrate also known as "Black" on 11/11/2023 about 1400 hrs , Fredrick Aboagye and Kwame Alarming hatched an idea to rob the company of it's gold ,

He added that Fredrick Aboagye and Kwame Alarming contacted Patrick Acheampong to engage some other people for the robbery since they may be suspected by the other workers if they directly involved themselves. Fredrick Aboagye again informed Kwame Alarming who is a hunter to assist with his single barrel gun for the robbery and he agreed, Patrick Acheampong also informed Afriyie Augustine and Amey about the intended robbery and how much they will get if they succeeded.

Inspection Agyeman said On 15/11/2023 about 1300 hrs, Fredrick Aboagye contacted Patrick Acheampong and Kwame Alarming to get ready for the robbery in the evening same day about 200hrs, Fredrick Aboagye and Kwame Alarming who knew the following day will be a taboo day for that reason the workers will close late went and hid themselves in a near by bush to monitor the victim. On 16/11/2023 about 1300hrs, victims Inusa Balo, Samuel Kofi Baah and James Abroh left the gold concentrate at the site and set off to Wassa Ankwawso so their way to the house, Frederick Aboagye and Kwame Alarming then called Patrick Acheampong, Afriyie Augustine, Yaw Boakye and Amey who were also hiding at section of the road to attack the victims and informed them to hold themselves in readiness because the complainant and the victims were coming  , About 0200hrs , the victims left the site without the gold concentrate Patrick Acheampong, Afriyie Augustine,Yaw Boakye and Amey armed Cutlass and a single barrel gun attacked the victims midday to the Wassa Ankwawso township and robbed them of cash of sum of 2,780.00, Tecno smart phone value Gh¢ 1,800.00 and one keypad mobile phone value Gh¢ 250.00. 

The prosecutor said the accused persons subjected the victims to severe beatings for them to show where gold concentrate was but later freed them .

He added that the complainant immediately reported to case to the police after the victims returned back to the site and informed the security guide who also informed the complainant.Fredrick Aboagye was suspected to be the brain behind the robbery since he knows the movement of the workers and he was immediately arrested. Fredrick Aboagye in his cautioned statement admitted the offence and mentioned Patrick Acheampong, Yaw Boakye,Amey, and Kwame Alarming as his accomplice, Afriyie Augustine was arrested and he also mentioned Amey and Augustine as their accomplice after investigations Fredrick Aboagye , Patrick Acheampong and Afriyie Augustine were charged as per the charge sheet while efforts are underway to get Yaw Boakye, Amey and Kwame Alarming to  stand trials.
