AFIG Amplifies Civil Society Voice at Global Anti-Corruption Summit in Doha
The Anti-Fraud Initiative Ghana (AFIG) has reaffirmed the critical role of civil society organisations in the global fight against corruption following its active participation in the 11th Session of the Conference of States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (CoSP11), held in Doha, Qatar.
At the high-level forum, Hon. Michael Nkoah Asiedu, Programmes and Partnerships Manager of AFIG, underscored the importance of strong collaboration between state institutions and non-state actors in promoting transparency, accountability and good governance. He noted that civil society organisations play a vital role in complementing government-led anti-corruption measures through advocacy, research, public education and citizen engagement.
The global conference, held under the theme “Shaping Tomorrow’s Integrity,” brought together heads of state, senior government officials, representatives of international organisations and civil society actors from across the world. The gathering provided a platform to review progress made under the United Nations Convention against Corruption (UNCAC), share best practices, and strengthen international cooperation in tackling corruption and related financial crimes.
Strong Ghanaian Presence
Ghana made a strong showing at the conference with a high-powered delegation led by the Speaker of Parliament, Rt. Hon. Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin. The delegation also included the Deputy Chief of Staff, Nana Oye Bampoe Addo; the Chief Justice, His Lordship Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie; the Deputy Attorney-General, Dr. Justice Srem-Sai; Ghana’s Ambassador to the United Nations in Vienna, H.E. Matilda Aku Alomatu Osei-Agyeman; the Special Prosecutor; and several Members of Parliament.
AFIG was represented by Mr. Isaac Ofori, Director of Research and Policy, and Hon. Michael Nkoah Asiedu, Programmes and Partnerships Manager, with the support of the President of AFIG, Mr. Isaac Obour. The organisation engaged in discussions on policy reforms, preventive measures and multi-stakeholder partnerships aimed at strengthening anti-corruption frameworks at both national and international levels.
AFIG’s participation at CoSP11 not only highlighted Ghana’s commitment to upholding the principles of UNCAC but also reinforced the organisation’s resolve to continue working with government institutions, development partners and civil society networks to advance integrity, accountability and sustainable development in Ghana and beyond.
