2024 Green Ghana: Our actions resulted in the destruction of over 50% of our forest reserves - Ogyeahoho

The President of the National House of Chiefs and paramount chief of Sefwi Anhwiaso traditional area, Osenkesie Akankanfo Ogyeahoho Yaw Gyebi ll speaking during the ceremonial tree planting held at the premises of the Bibiani Government Hospital has said our activations as Ghanaians especially politicians, traditional authorities, farmers, and miners have led to the massive destruction of over 50% of our natural forest and that has led to the excessive climate change we are experiencing of late.

Ogyeahoho believed that the majority of cocoa farmers expressed regret for giving away their cocoa farm lands to illegal miners instead of retaining them for cocoa production, a situation he found concerning.

The traditional ruler again lamented over the rate at which the forest reserve, water bodies, animals have been destroyed.

He stressed the numerous benefits of trees, including providing oxygen, reducing air pollution, and combating climate change.

According to him, planting a tree is a simple yet powerful way to make a positive impact on the environment.

He said by planting a tree; they are not only contributing to a greener and healthier planet but also leaving a lasting legacy for future generations to enjoy.

He expressed his heart-felt thanks to the President, Nana Addo Dankwah Akufo Addo for the Green Ghana Day initiative. He called on all and sundry to commit themselves to the tree planting exercise for our own good.
