Telecel Ghana and Mahama Care Initiative Donate Cervical Cancer Screening Equipment to Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Hospital

Telecel Ghana, one of the leading telecommunications companies in the country, in collaboration with the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (Mahama Care Initiative), has donated a cervical cancer screening machine, known as a colposcope, to the Sefwi Wiawso Government Hospital.

Speaking during the presentation, Miss Gifty Arthur, a member of Telecel Ghana’s Sustainability Team, explained the motivation behind the donation. She noted that the gesture fulfills a promise made by the company’s CEO to support healthcare delivery, particularly in the area of women’s health.

In an interview, Dr. William Omane Adjekum, Director of Operations at the Ghana Medical Trust Fund (Mahama Care Initiative), highlighted the importance of such initiatives. He stressed that Mahama Care seeks to support patients battling serious conditions such as kidney failure, cancer, stroke, diabetes, and others through funds raised by the initiative.

He further emphasized the need to train more medical specialists in Ghana, as the current number is insufficient to meet the growing healthcare demands.

Dr. Omane Adjekum also reiterated that one of the core objectives of the Ghana Medical Trust Fund is to ensure that all teaching hospitals and secondary healthcare facilities across the country are equipped with modern medical tools to effectively fight life-threatening diseases.

Receiving the equipment on behalf of the hospital, Dr. Robert Mensah, Regional Coordinator for Western and Central Regions, standing in for Dr. Paulina Clara Appiah, expressed profound gratitude to Telecel Ghana and the Ghana Medical Trust Fund. He assured that the hospital would put the equipment to effective use to enhance healthcare delivery, especially in cervical cancer screening and management.
