Socialist Movement of Ghana Urges Calm Over MCE's Appearance Before Public Accounts Committee

Mr. Emmanuel Biri, Convener of the Socialist Movement of Ghana (SMG), Bibiani Collective, a political institution that fight against corruption operating within the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality, is humbly appealing to residents to exercise patience regarding the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Sebastian Obeng's recent encounter with the Public Accounts Committee.

The committee's inquiry centered on an amount of twelve million Ghana cedis (GH₵ 12,000,000.00) allegedly misused. According to reports, the Assembly had mobilized GH₵ 3.4 million over six months, in addition to receiving two tranches of the District Assemblies Common Fund totaling over GH₵ 6 million, bringing the total amount handled to approximately GH₵ 12 million.

When questioned about the current status of the funds, Hon. Obeng assured the committee that the money was being utilized for developmental projects. Some of the projects mentioned by Hon. Obeng included the continuation of a legacy 6-unit classroom block at Queen's Senior High School and a sanitation project at Sefwi Bekwai Nsuo Akyi, an area prone to flooding during the rainy season.

Mr. Biri urged residents to remain calm as the committee has announced plans to conduct further investigations in Bibiani. Additionally, He advised the MCE to seek guidance from relevant authorities before attending future meetings to avoid potential embarrassment.
