Nana Yeebaa II, the queen mother of Sefwi Afrimkrom in the Sefwi Wiawso Municipality of the Western North region has donated sets of Mathematical instrument, exercise books, pencils, water bottles and other educational materials to Sefwi Afrimkrom M/A Basic School.

From her perspective the gesture was to support the schools in the community and improve teaching and learning.

Addressing the audience at a brief ceremony, Nana Yeebaa II expressed her goal of enhancing education in the region and making a more significant difference in the lives of children.

“It will be my greatest pleasure to bring out responsible children who will excel in their academics in the community. As a Queen Mother, I will do my possible best to make sure all this important dream happens,” she said.

Nana Yeebaa II also urged parents to support the teachers in offering their best in training the children.

She advised parents to visit the schools of their children to check on their performances and attitudes since some children exhibit behaviors at school that are not known by their parents at home.

The headteacher of Afrimkrom M/A Basic School, Patrick Kofi Ntim, who received the items, thanked the Queen Mother for her support for the school in recent times.

He called on all well-meaning citizens, philanthropists and other benevolent groups to emulate the gesture by the Queen Mother.

He used the opportunity to appeal to the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of the Sefwi Wiawso Municipal Assembly for his school to be considered in the next batch of schools to benefit from the school feeding.

As per his explanation, the current school population has decreased because the school did not receive any benefits from the school feeding programme. At the moment, he said most of the pupils have moved to the adjourning community schools because they enjoy the feeding programme.

In an interview, he noted that as a farming community, Afrimkrom has a lot of children who are not in school and are home because of financial difficulties, and introducing school feeding would motivate the children to come to school.

Beneficiaries of the donation thanked the queen mother and promised to study hard for a better future.

Nana Kwame Manso II, the Sefwi Afrimkrom, thanked the queen mother and advised parents and guardians to invest in their children’s education instead of lavishing money on buying unprofitable materials that will not have any future benefit to society.

According to him, children will play important roles in the future if given wonderful education.

He said educating children is very key and integral if the country wants to achieve development and rub shoulders with her counterparts on the global stage.

He reiterated parents should support their wards in school for a better tomorrow rather than lavishing monies in buying guns, and ‘arrows Man-Diesel.’
