The National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) in Sefwi Wiawso Municipality has organized a free health insurance registration exercise for residents of Sefwi Sui and its surrounding communities.

The initiative forms part of efforts to expand healthcare access, increase active membership, and educate the public on their rights under the NHIS.

Speaking during the exercise, the Municipal NHIS Manager, Joseph Danso, popularly known as Bra Kwame, announced a firm stance against illegal co-payments being charged by some health facilities. He cautioned that any facility found culpable will face legal consequences.

He further encouraged residents and stakeholders to promptly report any instances where additional unauthorized fees are demanded, stressing that such practices undermine the core objective of the scheme.

According to Mr. Danso, the ongoing registration drive is aimed at ensuring that more residents are enrolled and can access quality healthcare services without financial burden.

Also speaking at the event, the Assembly Member for the area, Benedict Arthur, commended the NHIS for the initiative, noting that it will significantly improve healthcare accessibility and positively impact the lives of residents.

Traditional authorities have also thrown their support behind the exercise. The Apegyahene of the Sefwi Wiawso Traditional Council and Chief of Sefwi Sui, Nana Kwasi Bosomtwe, urged community members to take full advantage of the opportunity by registering and making good use of their NHIS cards.

The initiative underscores a broader commitment by the NHIS to promote equitable healthcare delivery and protect subscribers from unlawful charges while improving overall service quality.
