Ohiampenika Residents Appeal for Road Rehabilitation and Essential Social Amenities
OHIAMPENIKA, Western North Region – Residents of Ohiampenika, a fast-growing suburb of Bibiani in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region, have appealed to the government and relevant authorities to provide critical development projects to improve their living conditions.
According to the residents, the community has been neglected for years despite its increasing population, leaving them without several basic social amenities needed for their daily lives. They believe urgent intervention will not only improve their standard of living but also support the overall development of the area.
The residents identified the poor condition of the road leading to Ohiampenika as their biggest challenge. They explained that the road has deteriorated significantly over the years, making transportation difficult, particularly during the rainy season when large portions become muddy and nearly impassable. As a result, many commercial drivers refuse to ply the route, compelling residents to rely on expensive "dropping" services to travel to and from the community.
They noted that the poor road network has affected businesses, delayed access to healthcare, and made it difficult for schoolchildren and workers to commute. The situation, they said, continues to place an unnecessary financial burden on families who are forced to pay higher transport fares due to the absence of regular commercial vehicles.
Beyond the road, the residents are also appealing for the provision of potable drinking water, the installation of street lights to enhance security at night, the placement of a Zoomlion waste container to improve sanitation, and the construction of a community centre where meetings, educational programmes, and other social activities can be held.
They expressed optimism that the Member of Parliament for Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai, the Municipal Chief Executive, and other development partners will respond positively to their appeal and prioritise the needs of the community.
Chief Appeals for Immediate Intervention
Speaking to the media, the Chief of Ohiampenika, Nana Kwadwo Nyarko Frimpong, described the deplorable state of the road as a major obstacle to the community's growth and development.
He explained that because of the poor condition of the road, commercial drivers are unwilling to operate in the area, forcing residents and visitors to depend on costly "dropping" transport services. According to him, the situation has made movement extremely difficult and continues to affect economic activities within the community.
Nana Kwadwo Nyarko Frimpong therefore appealed to the Member of Parliament for Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai, the Municipal Chief Executive, and all relevant authorities to urgently rehabilitate the road and provide the community with the needed social amenities, including potable water, street lights, improved sanitation facilities, and a community centre.
He stressed that addressing these challenges would significantly improve the welfare of residents, promote development, and make Ohiampenika a more attractive place to live and do business.
