Rev. Kennedy Donkor to Represent Ghana at African Affordable Non-State Education Leaders Forum in Lagos

The General Secretary of the Ghana National Association of Private Schools (GNAPS), Rev. Kennedy Donkor, is set to represent Ghana at the African Affordable Non-State Education Leaders Forum (AANSES 2026), scheduled for November 2–3, 2026, in Lagos, Nigeria.

The high-level forum will take place at NECA House, Alausa, Ikeja, and bring together education leaders from across Africa to discuss common challenges facing affordable non-state education and explore strategies to strengthen the sector's contribution to educational development on the continent.

Rev. Kennedy Donkor will join fellow national leaders from Nigeria, Sierra Leone and Kenya for a panel discussion on the theme: "Four Countries, Shared Challenges, One African Agenda: Understanding and Strengthening Affordable Non-State Education Across Africa."

The discussion will provide an opportunity for participating countries to share experiences, exchange ideas and identify practical approaches to addressing challenges affecting affordable private schools.

Ghana's Experience in Affordable Private Education

As part of the panel discussion, Rev. Kennedy Donkor will share Ghana's experience in operating and supporting affordable private schools, highlighting the important role these institutions play in expanding access to education.

According to the information provided, Ghana has more than 22,000 affordable private schools serving communities across the country.

These schools contribute to educational access by providing learning opportunities for children and families, particularly in communities where affordable schooling options are essential.

Rev. Donkor is also expected to highlight GNAPS's advocacy efforts aimed at reducing regulatory burdens on private schools and creating a more supportive environment for education providers.

His contribution will further emphasise the importance of collaboration between governments, education associations, development partners and private school operators in addressing challenges within the education sector.

Call for a Continental Agenda

A key focus of Rev. Donkor's contribution will be the need for a coordinated African approach to recognising and supporting affordable non-state schools as important partners in achieving Sustainable Development Goal 4 (SDG 4), which seeks to ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all.

The proposed continental agenda is anchored on the principles of Recognising, Including, Supporting and Engaging (RISE) affordable non-state schools.

The initiative seeks to encourage African governments and relevant stakeholders to recognise the contribution of affordable private schools, include them in education planning and policy discussions, provide appropriate support and engage them meaningfully in efforts to improve educational outcomes.

The forum is expected to provide an opportunity for education leaders to explore practical ways of strengthening partnerships between governments and affordable private school operators to expand access to quality education across Africa.

Appreciation to IDP Foundation

Rev. Kennedy Donkor has expressed appreciation to the IDP Foundation for providing the platform for African education leaders to exchange ideas and develop strategies for strengthening affordable non-state education.

The engagement is expected to contribute to discussions on the future of private education in Africa, with emphasis on shared experiences, policy engagement and collective action towards improving access to quality education.

GNAPS's participation will also provide an opportunity for Ghana to contribute to continental conversations on education policy while highlighting the experiences, achievements and challenges of affordable private schools in the country.

The African Affordable Non-State Education Leaders Forum will take place on November 2–3, 2026, at NECA House, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, Nigeria.

Long Live GNAPS! Long Live Private Education in Africa!
