NPP Raises Security Concerns Ahead of Akwatia By-Election
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed deep concerns about security arrangements for the upcoming Akwatia by-election.
Mr Richard Ahiagbah, the party's Director of Communications, urged the Inspector General of Police and representatives of all political parties to engage in serious deliberations on security measures.
*Concerns Over Electoral Violence*
Ahiagbah stressed that persistent electoral violence has marred recent by-elections and general elections.
He recalled violent incidents during the Ablekuma North re-run, where senior NPP officials were attacked at polling stations. Despite clear evidence, the police have made little progress in bringing perpetrators to justice.
*Allegations Against NDC*
Ahiagbah alleged that the NDC is planning to destabilize the constituency and create insecurity to force victory. He referenced public comments made by NDC Deputy General Secretary Mustapha Gbandi, suggesting the opposition is preparing to employ violent tactics.
*NPP's Commitment to Peace*
Ahiagbah reiterated the NPP's commitment to a peaceful, democratic process. He called on the IGP and military high command to remain vigilant and ensure the election is not infiltrated by violent schemes. "We are opposed to violence.
The people of Akwatia deserve parliamentary representation on merit, not through intimidation," he concluded
