Festus Bumakama Agyapong, a New Patriotic Party (NPP) parliamentary aspirant, has underscored the importance of consistency in Ghanaian politics, describing it as a key factor in electoral success.

According to him, Ghana’s political landscape tends to reward candidates who remain consistent and return to the ballot after setbacks.

He cited the examples of former Presidents J.A. Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, both of whom were retained by their party and eventually won power despite earlier defeats.

In the ongoing NPP presidential race, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia is reportedly leading with 56 percent support, followed by Kennedy Agyapong with 28 percent. Dr. Bawumia’s campaign is anchored on continuity, job equity, and managerial competence, while Kennedy Agyapong is positioning himself as a disruptor, campaigning against elite capture and entrenched political interests.

Mr. Bumakama Agyapong also criticized the NDC government, accusing it of failing to deliver on key campaign promises, particularly the much-touted 24-hour economy policy, which he described as a “scam” and an act of “deceit.”

He pointed to the dismissal of public sector workers recruited under the previous administration, as well as alleged nepotism and favoritism, as clear examples of unfulfilled promises.

The 24-hour economy policy, which is intended to boost productivity and create jobs, has faced growing skepticism. Critics argue that the policy is unrealistic and lacks a clear implementation framework, while others say it has distracted attention from more pressing challenges such as youth unemployment.
Despite the criticism, the NDC government insists that the policy is aimed at stimulating production and job creation through strategic public-private partnerships.
