Bibiani, Western North Region – The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Assembly, Hon. Sebastian Obeng, has cautioned cocoa farmers against paying for or selling government-supplied cocoa fertilizer, stressing that the fertilizer is completely free.
Speaking on Oman No Adwuma, a programme hosted by AkuapemHann on Okyeame Radio, Hon. Obeng disclosed that the government is preparing to distribute more than 11,000 bags of fertilizer to registered cocoa farmers across the municipality to boost cocoa production.
He emphasized that no farmer should pay money before, during, or after receiving the fertilizer.
"The cocoa fertilizer the government is about to distribute is free. No one should pay any money for it," he stated.
The MCE also warned that the fertilizer is clearly marked "Not for Sale," and anyone caught selling or illegally trading it will face the full rigours of the law. He further cautioned registered beneficiaries not to resell the fertilizer, noting that offenders risk prosecution and possible imprisonment.
Also speaking on the programme, the Bibiani District Cocoa Officer, Raymond Agbenorwosi, appealed to farmers who may not receive fertilizer during the initial phase of the exercise to remain patient, assuring them that the distribution is not based on political affiliation.
According to him, the allocation process is designed to ensure fairness and accountability. He explained that even farmers with large cocoa plantations will receive a maximum of 30 bags of fertilizer, adding that the distribution is based on responsible farm management and the efficient use of government resources.
Mr. Agbenorwosi urged all beneficiaries to use the fertilizer for its intended purpose to improve cocoa yields and support the government's efforts to increase agricultural productivity in the municipality.
