The Minister of Education, Hon. Haruna Iddrisu, has announced that Ghana has been selected to host the 2025 Triennial on Education and Training of the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA).

Speaking to the media in Accra, Hon. Iddrisu revealed that the three-day flagship event is scheduled to take place at the Labadi Beach Hotel from October 29 to 31, 2025.

He explained that the prestigious gathering will bring together over 500 education stakeholders, including more than 30 ministers of education from across Africa and beyond, to deliberate on strategies for improving foundational learning, leveraging technology and data to enhance learning outcomes, and building resilient education systems.

Expected participants include representatives from UNESCO, the World Bank, the Gates Foundation, Mastercard Foundation, the African Development Bank, FCDO, and other international development partners.

According to the Minister, the Triennial will provide a unique platform for Ghana to showcase its commitment to educational excellence and innovation.

The theme for the 2025 Triennial — “Strengthening the Resilience of Africa’s Educational Systems: Advancing Towards Ending Learning Poverty by 2035 with a Well-Educated and Skilled Workforce for the Continent and Beyond” — serves as a call to action for African leaders to strengthen teacher development, improve foundational learning, and explore innovative education financing models across the continent.

Hon. Iddrisu further noted that the Triennial will help African countries introduce and refine strategies to enhance foundational learning through technology and data-driven innovations. He emphasized that “like it or not, Artificial Intelligence will shape the way we learn, the way we teach, and how education evolves in the future.”

He added that the event will foster knowledge sharing, peer learning, and strategic partnerships among stakeholders in the education sector. Participants will explore ways to accelerate learning outcomes for millions of African children and commit to actionable reforms.

The Minister also acknowledged the support of key partners, including the World Bank and the Global Partnership for Education, for their continuous contribution to improving learning outcomes on the continent.

Hon. Iddrisu reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to ADEA’s vision of ending learning poverty by 2035, adding that His Excellency President John Dramani Mahama will officially open the 2025 Triennial in Accra.
