Pupils and students of the Bibiani Seventh Day Adventist Primary, Junior High and Bibiani adventist Preparetory School have celebrated the Education Week of the Church to help inculcate in their virtues to assist them to become useful citizens.
The over three–hour clean-up exercise included clearing and sweeping of open drains, removing used plastic bags and containers as well as desisting choked gutters within the principal streets of Bibiani.
The Head teacher of the Junior High school, Mr Samuel Obeng Opoku said Adventist education aims to prepare students for the joy of service in this work, and for the higher joy of wider service in the world to come “Thus, the role of Adventist education is to plant the seed of service in our students’ hearts and the wider community, and God gives the harvest.”
in an aninterview with the media, he said if children are educated on the important role the environment plays in the lives of humans, they would see the need to protect it.
He said they would be knowledgeable enough to speak against acts that affect the environment negatively.
He called for collaboration between teachers and parents for the proper upbringing of the children to bring the best out of them.
Mr Alfred Bio, the Primary School head teacher, explained that a cleaner and healthier environment was paramount for nation building hence appealed to the public not to see cleaning as a preserve of only the state but collaboration with all stakeholders.
“We are cleaning for good health, we are cleaning for a good environment, we are not cleaning for any individual, and we are cleaning for ourselves.
He stated that certain communicable diseases could be prevented if little hygienic practices were observed.
With a call on Ghanaians to make conscious efforts to improve sanitation conditions in our environment, Mr Anthony Osei-Owusu, the head teacher for the Adventist Preparetory School on his part, called on the public to rekindle the spirit of communal labour.
He uses the opportunity to appeal to the municipal assembly to support schools within the Municipality with more dustbins to improve sanitary conditions well.
