A new six-unit classroom block with a staff common room, washroom and a storeroom, has been constructed for the Kuffour Camp D/A Basic School in the Atwima Mponua District of the Ashanti Region.

The facility which was built at a cost of 350K was funded by Nana Yaw Sarpong Family at Tepa Akwasiase in the Ahafo Ano North District of the Ahafo region in memory of their late mother and grandmother mother Nana Akua Serwaah.

Nana Yaw Sarpong, the Abusuapanin of Tepa Akwasiase who doubles as the Sompahene of Ahafo Nkaseim in the Asutifi South District of the Ahafo Region, who led the members of the family at the official commissioning and handing over of the project at Kuffour Camp, said the gesture was a commitment by the family to augment efforts of the government in meeting the educational needs in the country.

He said the facility was established through an Educational Foundation set up by the family ten years ago, to promote access to quality education and a conducive environment for children in the area, especially those from deprived homes and communities to study.

The traditional ruler said the family will continue to provide scholarships to needy pupils as well as free extra vacation and classes for children in the area.

He said the family had the vision of promoting multi-stakeholder support in education delivery in the area and pledged continuous support to the family in providing quality education to children.

Mr Stephen Kwadwo Nsiah, a family member, said teachers should present themselves as a role model to the students and also should teach them in such a way so that in future they could serve the nation effectively and to perform their duties with dedication and sincerity.

He encouraged parents in the community to channel all their energies into educating their children, adding, “education of children is vital for the development of our communities”.

“If Kuffour Campman wants to achieve development and compete with her counterpart in other parts of the community, then children’s education must be their foremost priority,” Mr Nsiah advised.

“We added school uniforms to be distributed to the students. Please, I beg you, headmaster and teaching staff kindly cultivate the spirit of maintenance for the building to last longer,” he said.

He therefore urged the students to take their academic studies seriously to become responsible leaders in the future.

Mr. Isaac Elisha Sarpong, the headmaster of the Kuffour Camp D/A Basic School commended the family for the gesture and said the facility would be used to achieve the intended purpose and called on other individuals and families who had the capacity and resources, to support community and national infrastructural development agenda.

He promised that they will take good care of it to help improve teaching and learning.
