Some of the students shared what they learnt with the media and according them they said they practiced how to escape the house safely by crawling on the floor and staying low to the ground, away from the smoke, until they reach a door to the outside. Once outside, they learned to meet a designated safe spot predetermined by the adults in their home.

They added that they were also taught to keep their bedroom doors closed at night to prevent fire from getting inside.

Firefighters demonstrated how to check the temperature of the door by feeling it to indicate if there was a fire on the other side. If the door is hot, firefighters told the students to open the window in their room and yell for help.
