Nana Ackaah Panin Takes Firm Stand Against Encroachment on Bibiani Basengeley Lands
The Abusuapanin to Ogyeahohor Yaw Gyebi II, the Paramount Chief of the Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Council, has held a community engagement with the Basengele community to address growing concerns over illegal activities on the Basengele lands.
Speaking to a large gathering of residents, youth leaders, and local officials, Nana Ackaa Panin condemned unlawful sand-winning and other encroachment activities on the lands.
He stated that illegal sand-winning activities would not be tolerated and called for proper and lawful engagement from sand winners and other stakeholders, warning that those who fail to comply would face his full wrath.
His warning follows a long stand-off between illegal land grabbers and the community, which has created tension and threatened peace in the area.
He further admonished the community to remain steadfast and not be intimidated by any unlawful activities of encroachers, pledging his full support to residents in defending their lands. “Stand firm, and do not allow lawlessness to intimidate you. Together, we will protect our heritage,” he declared.
Highlighting the cultural and historical significance of the Basengele lands, the chief reminded residents that these lands are not merely for economic use but are the legacy of their ancestors. He emphasized that protecting them ensures that future generations have access to this vital communal resource.
On the other hand, Nana Atto Oware, the Odikro, expressed gratitude to Nana Ackaa Panin for his exemplary leadership.
He pledged his unwavering support for both the Chief and the community while also warning encroachers to refrain from any unlawful acts.
The engagement also attracted several community leaders, including the Assembly Member and Committee Chairman, who applauded the Chief for taking a bold and decisive stand against the impunity threatening peace in the area. They noted that such leadership was necessary to restore order and safeguard the community’s assets.
Nana Ackaa Panin called on the youth to actively participate in land protection initiatives. He encouraged them to report suspicious activities, remain vigilant, and take ownership of their heritage. “Your vigilance today protects our legacy tomorrow,” he said, appealing to the younger generation to stand firm alongside the council.
He further pledged to organize periodic community awareness programs aimed at educating residents about their land rights, the dangers of encroachment, and the importance of unity in defending communal resources. This, he said, would strengthen the community’s ability to resist unlawful activities.
In a stern warning to potential encroachers, the Chief stated, “Consider this your first and only warning. Any act of trespass will be met with the full force of our laws and customs.” His declaration left no doubt about the traditional council’s commitment to defending the Basengele Stool lands.
As the engagement drew to a close, residents expressed appreciation for the Chief’s proactive stance and vowed to support the council’s efforts. The meeting ended on a note of unity, signaling renewed determination to protect the Basengele lands for present and future generations.
