Hon. Eric Opoku Donates Six Brand-New Pickups to Boost Free Primary Healthcare Delivery in Asunafo South

The Minister for Food and Agriculture and Member of Parliament for the Asunafo South Constituency, , has reaffirmed his commitment to improving healthcare delivery by donating six brand-new pickup vehicles to the Asunafo South District Health Directorate.

The vehicles were donated during the Asunafo South District Assembly's official launch of the Free Primary Healthcare Programme, where government officials, health professionals, traditional leaders, local government authorities, and residents gathered to mark the commencement of the initiative.

The pickups are expected to enhance healthcare delivery by improving transportation for health workers, strengthening disease surveillance, supporting emergency response, and facilitating outreach services to communities across the district and the beneficial health facilities are Kukuom hospital, Sankore polyclinic, Kwapong Health center,Nakatey clinic , Tettekwo clinic and Asiberem clinic.

The donation forms part of Hon. Eric Opoku's broader vision of strengthening public healthcare institutions and ensuring that residents of Asunafo South have access to quality, accessible, and efficient free primary healthcare services. The Minister has consistently maintained that quality healthcare is a cornerstone of national development and that investing in the health sector is an investment in the well-being and future of the people.

Addressing the gathering during the launch, Hon. Eric Opoku said the six pickup vehicles had been procured specifically to improve the operational efficiency of the District Health Directorate and its various health facilities as they implement the Free Primary Healthcare Programme.

He urged health officials to use the vehicles responsibly and exclusively for official healthcare duties, stressing that they should not be diverted for private or unauthorized purposes.

The Minister further encouraged the Health Directorate to cultivate a strong maintenance culture to ensure that the vehicles remain roadworthy and continue serving the people of Asunafo South for many years.

"These vehicles belong to the people of Asunafo South and have been provided to improve healthcare delivery under the Free Primary Healthcare Programme. I urge all officers who will use them to ensure they are used strictly for health-related duties and maintained properly. Good maintenance will extend their lifespan and enable them to serve more communities," Hon. Eric Opoku stated.

He also commended doctors, nurses, physician assistants, midwives, community health officers, and all healthcare professionals for their dedication and sacrifices in providing quality healthcare despite the challenges confronting the sector. He reaffirmed his commitment to working closely with the Ghana Health Service and other stakeholders to improve healthcare infrastructure, logistics, and the welfare of health workers within the constituency.

Receiving the vehicles on behalf of the Asunafo South District Health Directorate and the various health facilities, the District Director of Health, Mr. Kwadwo Ansong, expressed profound appreciation to Hon. Eric Opoku for what he described as one of the most significant logistical interventions received by the Directorate in recent years.

Mr. Ansong noted that transportation has long been a major challenge affecting healthcare delivery, particularly in hard-to-reach communities where health workers often struggle to conduct supervisory visits, emergency referrals, immunization campaigns, maternal and child healthcare programmes, and public health education activities.

He explained that the six new pickup vehicles would significantly improve the mobility of healthcare workers, strengthen emergency response systems, enhance disease surveillance, facilitate monitoring and evaluation of health programmes, and ensure the timely delivery of essential healthcare services throughout the district.

Describing the donation as timely, Mr. Ansong assured the Minister and the people of Asunafo South that the vehicles would be used solely for official healthcare activities.

He pledged that the District Health Directorate would institute proper maintenance schedules and accountability measures to ensure that the vehicles remain in excellent condition and continue serving the people effectively.

"We sincerely thank Hon. Eric Opoku for this generous intervention. This support has come at a time when the Directorate urgently needs reliable means of transportation. We assure him that these vehicles will be used responsibly, maintained regularly, and dedicated entirely to improving healthcare delivery across the district," Mr. Ansong said.

The donation was one of the major highlights of the Asunafo South District Assembly's launch of the Free Primary Healthcare Programme and was warmly welcomed by health workers, opinion leaders, and residents.

Many described the intervention as a significant boost to the successful implementation of the programme and expressed optimism that the additional logistics would improve access to quality healthcare, especially for people living in remote communities.
