HEALTH: Feed your children with additional protein- mothers advised

The Bibiani Government Hospital Reproductive and Child Health-Care Unit (RCHU) has celebrated its Child Health Promotion Week celebration as part of their activities they organised cooking demonstration for nursing mothers.

Mrs Gertrude Opoku Sika, a Senior Public Health nurse in an interaction with Bibianinews.com said the cooking demonstrations were to be show the nursing mothers how to make their children diets more nutritious through different cooking techniques and recipes adapted to the local context.

She urged mothers to give their children food containing enough protein to facilitate development of their bodies and the brain.

Mrs Gertrude stressed that malnutrition retarded growth and urged parents to regard it as a serious health problem, which needed urgent attention.

Mrs Achia Akosua, a public health nurse at the unit, also urged people to erase the notion that mothers who sent their children to the unit did not know how to prepare food. “Do not let that false notion scare you from sending your children to the unit,” she said.

She advised them to go and make good use of what they have to be learning and teaching others.
