Bibiani Solani Montessori School Engages EC to Supervise Prefectship Elections

Bibiani Solani Montessori School has taken a significant stride in promoting civic education and leadership among pupils by inviting officials from the Electoral Commission (EC) of the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai District to supervise its 2025 prefectship elections.

This unique initiative offered students a practical experience of Ghana’s democratic process, reinforcing values of transparency, integrity, and responsible leadership.

During the event, the Headteacher, Mr. John Kojo Owusu, highlighted the importance of exposing young learners to proper electoral procedures.

He noted that involving the EC ensures the process mirrors national standards, helping pupils understand the importance of free and fair elections.

“Our goal is to instill in them the principles of democracy, fairness, and transparency. By witnessing and participating in a real electoral process, they will grow into responsible citizens ready to cast their votes confidently at age 18,” he said.

The Chief Executive Officer of the school and founder of the Solani Group of Companies, Mr. Solomon Aniah, reiterated the school’s commitment to holistic education.

He expressed his vision of positioning Solani Montessori among the top educational institutions in the Western North Region.

“We are not just educating children; we are shaping Ghana’s future. Initiatives like this help us raise disciplined, visionary leaders who value good governance and national development,” Mr. Aniah emphasized.

The Returning Officer for the event, Mr. Derrick Boateng, extended appreciation to the EC officials for their professionalism and support. He commended their efforts in guiding the pupils through the electoral procedures—from campaigning and balloting to counting and declaration of results—ensuring credibility and peace throughout the process.

The elections witnessed enthusiastic participation from pupils, who campaigned, debated, and voted just like in national polls. The atmosphere was filled with excitement as the results were announced.

Nancy Nsiah Baako, elected Girls’ Prefect (JHS), expressed gratitude to the school authorities for giving them such a rare opportunity. She pledged to serve with humility and dedication.

“I thank the school for organizing this election. I promise to fulfill all my pledges and be a role model to my colleagues,” she said.

Johnnie Atta Affum, elected Boys’ Prefect (Primary), also thanked the teachers and management for their support and trust.

“This experience has taught us how leaders are chosen. I will work hard to represent the voice of the pupils,” he assured.

The prefectship elections at Bibiani Solani Montessori School mark a milestone in practical civic education, bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-life governance. By collaborating with the Electoral Commission, the school has set a commendable example for others to follow.

The event concluded with applause and celebration, as pupils proudly displayed their ink-marked thumbs—a symbol of their first step into democratic participation and leadership.
