14 Confirmed Mpox Cases in Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipality

The Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Disease Control Office has confirmed 14 cases of the Mpox virus out of 36 tested results, with 4 results still pending.

According to Oheneba Oppong Darko, the Municipal Director of Health, this makes Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai the most affected area in the Western North Region.

Speaking with the media, Mr Darko expressed concern over the rapid spread of the virus, highlighting that many affected individuals are hesitant to seek hospital treatment due to misconceptions about the disease.

"Many people mistakenly consider Mpox a mild illness similar to chickenpox, despite slight differences,"he explained.

The virus can be transmitted from person to person and spread through direct contact with infected animals or humans.

He stressed that the Municipal Health Directorate is implementing measures to contain the virus.

He therefore urged residents to remain vigilant and adhere to health guidelines as the virus continues to spread.
