Sefwi Pataboso M/A Basic School Appeals for Urgent Renovation of Dilapidated Classroom Block

SEFWI PATABOSO, Western North Region — The Headteacher of Sefwi Pataboso M/A Basic School, Mr Michael Saidu, has appealed to the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Municipal Directorate of the Ghana Education Service (GES), the Member of Parliament (MP) and the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) to urgently intervene to renovate a deteriorating classroom block he says poses a serious threat to the safety of pupils and teachers.

According to Mr Saidu, the poor condition of the school's KJ classroom block has become a major concern, affecting teaching and learning and making it increasingly difficult for teachers to conduct lessons under normal conditions.

He explained that whenever dark clouds gather and rain threatens, he is compelled to dismiss pupils from the affected block out of fear for their safety.

Mr Saidu added that the condition of the building also creates difficulties during the afternoon when the sun becomes intense, negatively affecting the teaching and learning environment.

He warned that the situation requires urgent attention to prevent possible harm to pupils and teachers, calling on the relevant authorities and stakeholders to prioritise the renovation of the block.

The headteacher stressed the importance of providing pupils with a safe and conducive learning environment, noting that the physical condition of school infrastructure plays a critical role in effective teaching and academic progress.

He therefore urged the Municipal GES Directorate, the area's Member of Parliament and the MCE to visit the school, assess the situation and take the necessary steps to ensure that the classroom block is renovated.

Road Construction Dust Raises Additional Concerns

Meanwhile, the Unit Committee Chairman of the area, Mr Emmanuel Owusu, has appealed to the contractor undertaking road construction in the community to expedite work on the project to reduce the dust affecting pupils and other residents.

Mr Owusu expressed concern that dust generated by the ongoing road construction was affecting the school environment, making conditions uncomfortable for pupils and potentially disrupting teaching and learning.

He called on the contractor to intensify efforts to complete the project as quickly as possible while taking appropriate measures to minimise dust during construction.

He also urged the relevant authorities to ensure that the road project is completed within a reasonable timeframe to ease the difficulties faced by residents and the school community.

Call for Support

The concerns raised by the headteacher and the Unit Committee Chairman highlight the need for coordinated action to improve both school infrastructure and the surrounding environment.

The renovation of the deteriorating classroom block would help provide a safer learning environment, while the timely completion of the road project and effective dust-control measures would help reduce disruptions to academic activities.

Parents, teachers and community members are therefore encouraged to support efforts to address the challenges facing the school.

The school community is hopeful that the appeal will receive the necessary attention from the relevant authorities and stakeholders to ensure that pupils can learn in a safe, comfortable and conducive environment.
