Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Council, Municipal Assembly Begin Decongestion Exercise at Bibiani Roundabout and Principal Streets
The Sefwi Anhwiaso Traditional Council in collaboration with the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Assembly has commenced a major decongestion exercise at the Bibiani roundabout and the principal streets of Bibiani to ensure the free movement of vehicles and pedestrians.
The exercise is aimed at clearing traders who operate directly along the Bibiani roundabout and on the main streets, as well as shop owners who display their goods outside their stores and on the roadside, obstructing traffic and pedestrian walkways. Over time, these activities have caused heavy congestion in the central business district, creating inconvenience for motorists and increasing the risk of road accidents.
Speaking during the operation, Nana Akwasi Ator-Ware II, Chief of Bibiani Bassengeley and Chairman of the Decongestion Committee, explained that the initiative is primarily to promote public safety and restore order, particularly around the busy roundabout and along the principal streets.
According to him, the indiscriminate placement of goods on pavements and roadsides not only disrupts the smooth flow of traffic but also exposes traders and customers to potential accidents.
He stressed that the Traditional Council and the Assembly are working together to create a safer and more organized trading environment that will benefit both business owners and the general public.
Nana Ator-Ware II further emphasized that the exercise is not meant to punish traders but to protect lives and ensure long-term economic stability in Bibiani. He called on all affected traders to cooperate with authorities to ensure the success and sustainability of the exercise.
Mr. Prosper Ackwah, the Deputy Officer of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO) in the municipality, also expressed his support for the initiative. He described the exercise as timely and necessary, noting that decongestion will significantly reduce accident risks, particularly in high-traffic areas such as the Bibiani roundabout.
He added that keeping the principal streets clear will also improve access for emergency services in case of fire outbreaks, medical emergencies, or other disasters.
The Municipal Assembly has assured the public that the decongestion exercise will be conducted in a fair and humane manner, with continued engagement between authorities and traders to maintain order and promote sustainable urban management.
Residents and motorists have welcomed the move, expressing optimism that the decongestion of the Bibiani roundabout and principal streets will bring lasting relief and improved traffic flow within the municipality.
