Some Sanitation Guards in Sefwi Bekwai, in the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality of the Western North Region, have appealed to the Environmental Health authorities for their payment of their salaries.

They said the current economic situation had brought financial challenges to them and they therefore had no option than to call for payment of their 10-months arrears.

A sanitation guard and leader of the group in Sefwi Bekwai, Mr. John Arthur, told Bibianinews.com that they discharged their duties under the Municipal Environmental Health office, but several attempts made for their payment proved unsuccessful.

He expressed that; it took them some months before they received two months pay on table top which was supposed to be done through their bank accounts, which was worrying and the banks they seek loans from are chasing for their monies.

“He said, the authorities are not attending to them to supply tools and materials, so they need to buy some for themselves before they can work and so appealing to the environmental authorities and government to pay their allowances.

Some guards who were furious about the terrible challenges stated that they’re welling to work but because of the inability of the Assembly to pay them, they’re facing a lot of challenges, also can’t have their peace of mind since the banks are chasing for their loan monies.

Mr.Cephas Kwaku Dzakah, the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipal Environmental Health Officer, confirmed that they’re casual workers and also owned them but since the Assembly became a stand for the past two years ago, internal generated fund became a problematic, so, authorities are working hard to settle them in due course.
