NADMO Director Urges Landlords, Tenants to Prioritise Building Maintenance

The Municipal Director of the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) for the Bibiani Anhwiaso Bekwai Municipality, Madam Abubakari Aminatu, has called on landlords and landladies to cultivate a strong culture of routine building maintenance to prevent avoidable disasters.

Speaking in an interview with Hamza Mohammed, Madam Aminatu expressed concern that some property owners focus primarily on rent collection while neglecting the structural condition of their buildings.

According to her, regular inspection and timely repairs are essential to guarantee the safety and well-being of occupants.

She explained that damaged roofing sheets, weakened structures, faulty electrical connections, and other minor defects, if left unattended, could escalate into serious hazards.

“Landlords must act promptly to repair faults before they become dangerous,” she stressed.

Madam Aminatu also encouraged tenants to take shared responsibility in maintaining their living spaces. She advised that where minor issues arise and landlords delay in addressing them, tenants should take reasonable steps to fix urgent problems to prevent further deterioration.

She emphasised that cooperation between landlords and tenants remains crucial in ensuring safe, secure, and disaster-resilient communities.

Madam Aminatu further reiterated NADMO’s commitment to public education and disaster prevention across the municipality.
