The Motor Traffic and Transport Department (MTTD) of the Ghana Police Service in Bibiani has recorded a total of 18 road accidents within the first quarter of 2026, resulting in one death.

Speaking to the media, the Bibiani District MTTD Commander, DSP Emmanuel Osei, disclosed that the accidents involved motorcycles, tricycles popularly known as “Aboboyaa,” and commercial motorbikes locally referred to as Okada or Pragya.

According to him, out of the 18 recorded cases:

Motorcycles accounted for 5 cases

Aboboyaa recorded 6 cases

Okada/Pragya recorded 7 cases

DSP Emmanuel Osei revealed that the only death recorded during the period involved an Okada/Pragya accident.

He expressed concern over the increasing rate of road accidents involving commercial motorbike operators and urged riders to strictly adhere to road safety regulations to prevent further casualties.

The District MTTD Commander used the opportunity to advise motorists and riders to avoid over-speeding, reckless riding, and disregard for traffic regulations, which he identified as some of the major causes of accidents in the municipality.

“Drivers and riders must reduce over-speeding to avoid accidents and save lives on our roads,” he advised.

DSP Emmanuel Osei further emphasized that no individual is permitted to use the road without the appropriate riding or driving license. He cautioned riders operating without valid licenses to regularize their documents and undergo proper training before using the roads.

He reiterated the commitment of the MTTD to intensify road safety education and enforcement measures to ensure the safety of road users within the Bibiani municipality and its surrounding communities.
