Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai MP Announces Plans for 24-Hour Economy Market in Sefwi Bekwai

The Member of Parliament for the Bibiani-Anhwiaso-Bekwai Constituency, Hon. Bright Asamoah Brefo, has announced plans to establish a modern 24-hour economy market in Sefwi Bekwai, aimed at boosting economic growth and improving livelihoods within the municipality.

Hon. Brefo made this known during an interview on Lord FM, where he shared his vision of transforming Sefwi Bekwai into a vibrant commercial hub that operates beyond traditional trading hours.

According to the MP, the initiative forms part of broader national efforts to promote a 24-hour economy, increase productivity, and create sustainable employment opportunities for Ghanaians.

He explained that Sefwi Bekwai was strategically selected for the project due to its prime location and the availability of vast land suitable for such a large-scale development. The town, noted for its active trading activities and accessibility to nearby communities, is expected to benefit significantly from the initiative.

“The choice of Sefwi Bekwai is deliberate. The town has the land, the people, and the commercial potential to support a 24-hour market. This project will not only serve our constituency but will also attract traders and investors from across the Western North Region and beyond,” Hon. Brefo stated.

The proposed market is expected to operate around the clock, creating a dynamic business environment where traders can buy and sell at any time of the day. This, he noted, will help reduce congestion during peak trading hours while improving efficiency and increasing income levels for market women, farmers, transport operators, and small-scale business owners.

Beyond enhancing trade, the project is also projected to generate employment opportunities for the youth, boost local revenue mobilization, and stimulate investment in critical infrastructure such as roads, lighting, and security systems. Hon. Brefo assured that adequate measures would be put in place to ensure safety, proper sanitation, and effective management of the facility.

He further emphasized that stakeholder engagement will be a key priority, with traditional leaders, traders’ associations, and community members expected to be actively involved throughout the planning and implementation stages.

More details regarding the project’s timeline, funding, and design are expected to be communicated as plans progress.
