Peasant farmers Association of Ghana launches Western North Regional Branch to promote organic farming

The Peasant Farmers Association of Ghana (PFAG) has taken a significant step towards promoting sustainable agriculture practices with the launch of its Western North Region branch at Sefwi Waiwso.

Mr. Wepia Awal Adugwala, facilitator and National President of PFAG, shared his insights during the launch, emphasizing the importance of organic farming in addressing fertilizer-related health problems. Many farmers rely on fertilizers to boost their harvest, but this comes with serious health risks.

During the program, Mr. Paul Sarfo Mensah was elected as the chairman and expressed his enthusiasm for teaching people about organic farming.

“We need to educate our fellow farmers about the benefits of organic farming and how it can improve their health and livelihoods.

Farming representatives at the program were grateful for the opportunity to learn about organic farming and pledged to share their knowledge with other farmers. This move is expected to have a positive impact on the farming community, especially considering the challenges faced by farmers in the region.

The PFAG, an apex farmer based Non Governmental Organization of Ghana with membership in all the sixteen regions’ vision, is to provide a life of dignity for the peasant farmer. It has been vocal about the need for support for farmers, citing the economic hardship and lack of registration on the government’s Planting for Food and Jobs Programme Phase II (PFJ 2.0) as major concerns. With the launch of the WNR branch, the association is taking concrete steps towards empowering farmers and promoting sustainable agriculture practices.
